Song of the Month- January

AT THE END OF THE DAY- WALLOWS

This is my dedication post to my best friend Alex. I choose this song because this song to me is what my relationship with Alex feels like. Even though the song kind of refers to romantic love, this song sounds like the love I have for Alex as my friend and my soulmate. I think I'm also just thinking about relationships a lot more- relationships with your family, your friends, romantic relationships, even relationships with people you don't necessarily like so much. In terms of relationships with friends, this year, I truly feel like I am understanding friendship love. Love for friends is so precious and sacred.. they are your chosen family, your chosen people.

The lyrics in this song that make me think of Alex and I's relationship- "At the end of the day, I'm not far away, I'm staying"; "Please just see That you are not alone, you are not alone I'll never let you go, unless you want me to"

I just read the full lyrics in this song and I'm now realizing it's about a love relationship that is starting to crumble (oops), but I still stand by this song. To me, this song is about always supporting someone you love and being there for them. But also, if that person needs the other person to let go, that person will let them go. I think it is so special to support your friends, but it's even more incredible to do something as hard as let your friend go if they know it will help them grow into a better and stronger person at the end of the day. I think Alex and I would do anything for each other, even let each other go if it would help the other person grow, and that to me is love.

I biked a lot after school on the way home, listening to this song and feeling so grateful for my friends and my family. I would replay the bridge over and over. It was so nice to hear the lines "You are not alone" repeated. Also, it had gotten sunnier in January, so imagine listening to this song, while biking in the sunlight with a light breeze..

Alex, thank you for being one of my greatest supporters during exchange. Thanks for listening to me rant, cry, and just talk. You've helped me so much this year, love you!!
