I went to Enschede a few days ago. Enschede is by the German border. I met with a few exchange students that lived there. I got there early, so I was kind of just walking around. There was a Dutch guy who was lost and asked me for help with directions. I put his address into Google Maps and led him to the building. Biggest flex ever. I can't believe I showed a Dutch person where to go in the NL. Kinda proud. I met the girls (Italy and US) and we walked around. There were some cute thrift stores and small- owned businesses. We also went into this store for gamers but it was like retro. If I was a gamer, I definitely would've geeked out. It was really really cool. We also went to this Asian snack store and I bought honey twist crackers, corn bugles, and pocky. For lunch, we had bagels. After that, we went to a cafe and I got a red velvet cake and cappuccino. I felt so fancy ordering a cappuccino. I don't really even know what a cappuccino is, like what kind of coffee it is. I just ordered it cuz the Italian girl did. My red velvet was okay. My mom makes really good red velvet, so this one was kind of disappointing. We walked around some more, and then I went back.
Also, I haven't been feeling super homesick lately or anything, but I've been missing food from Houston so much. The bread is too much here. I've said this so many times but it baffles me how much bread Dutch people eat. I was going to pick up food at the grocery store for dinner because Mar was out with a friend. This is going to sound dramatic, but I was there for like 30 minutes trying to figure out what to eat. I could not find anything. I was standing in front of the bread section, trying to figure out if I wanted a croissant or pizza bread or spinach flaky stick, and I realized I didn't want bread. I started crying in front of the bread section. How embarrassing is that? To my defense though, I was listening to Phoebe Bridgers' "I Know The End" which if you haven't listened to the song, listen to it now! And imagine me looking at bread in the grocery store and having a small meltdown while listening to Phoebe Bridgers singing about the world ending. Also, I want to point out there were many other food options for me to eat, but in the moment, for some reason I thought bread was the only option.
