hi! this was last weekend. I went with Mar to the Hague. We walked around and went in and out of shops. Then, we went to the weekly art market they have on Saturdays by the river across from the Parliament. I got these two little jewelry boxes for 3.50 euro, and they are the cutest things ever. My friend Roos' birthday was a few weeks ago, so I think I will give one to her on Monday. There were also stands that sold old maps and postcards from around the world, a honey stand where Mar bought honey, and this stand that had antique telephones, televisions, and radios. After, we went to this home store and bought candy sticks, and then we went to a crystal shop and a vintage shop which I am definitely going back to later. The Netherlands has the cutest secondhand shops with the best selection; so many leather jackets, vintage Levis, and fun handbags. We ate hot sandwiches in the center. Our waiter didn't know Dutch, only English! Everyone here speaks English, it's crazy.
While Mar and I were driving back home, we were talking about pancakes and she told me that Dutch people eat pancakes for dinner. It's sorta like what people eat when they're lazy and there's not many ingredients in your fridge, so you decide to have pancakes for dinner. And I thought that was crazy, so she took me to a pancake house. The pancakes are huge. So big. For me, I can't eat that a lot of pancakes because I kinda get bored of the taste after a while. But, this one was good, tasted like a crepe.

The next day, I went to Rotterdam with Mar and her family. It was Mar's mom, Mar's sister and her husband, their daughter, and their son's girlfriend and her sister. But their son didn't come because he's in Berlin working at hotel school.
We went on a boat tour and I honestly don't know what we were looking at (I think gas storage for the ships or something) because I wasn't really paying attention. I was talking to Mar's sister's husband and Anna- Louise about music and apparently he plays the bass which is so cool. He really likes the band Keane and that one song "Somewhere Only We Know." Then, we went to a control tower for ships where they track ships entering and exiting the port and make sure they don't crash and stuff.
We drove to Mar's mom's house and she made us really good Indonesian food. Their family is from Indonesia, so they visit there sometimes and know how to make good Indonesian food. We ate and talked in the backyard, cute and fun.
Ya, that was my weekend. Super fun. I'm in Texel now, an island north of the Netherlands that many Dutch people travel to. Will probably make another post soon :)
Bye,
Amelia
